What are the questions of nutrition research in Germany?

March 06, 2017

Discussion of the four competence clusters in nutrition at the DGE Congress on 2nd March 2017 in Kiel. How does nutrition research meet the societal challenges of our time?

The competence cluster Diet-Body-Brain, enable, NutriAct and nutriCARD, supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, gave answers to pressing questions at the DGE Congress. Prof. Dr. Hans Hauner (enable, Munich), Prof. Dr. Tilmann Grune (NutriAct, Potsdam-Rehbruecke) and Prof. Dr. Stefan Lorkowski discussed the results (NutriCARD, Jena) different tasks and strategic approaches.

While Diet-Body-Brain is investigating the influence of diet on cognitive skills for the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases, enable will help prevent the health consequences of the growing consumption of convenience foods. At the core of NutriAct research are nutrition-related, age-associated diseases. The goal of nutriCARD is to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

All clusters are characterized by a close network of different scientific disciplines - from nutrition and food science to epidemiology, medicine, neuroscience and psychology to computer science, communication, behavioral and social science. Enable, enable, NutriAct and nutriCARD also cooperate with the food industry.
