PhD Retreat: Visit to the DGE in Bad Godesberg. How are dietary guidelines created?

December 20, 2017

On December 14, 2017, the young scientists of the DietBB Cluster met at the German Nutrition Society (DGE).

As an introduction, Angela Bechthold presented the DGE with its goals, tasks and structures. The DGE research associate showed how young researchers could benefit from the DGE.
In this context, she referred to the upcoming DGE Congress in Stuttgart-Hohenheim and the science awards of the DGE , which will be awarded again in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
Dr Anna Maria Amini from the Science Department at the DGE explained how the evidence-based guidelines issued by the DGE were developed. The development of a guideline is an extensive scientific project. Amini is currently working on the protein guideline together with a colleague and a commission of experts. The defined procedure is based on a systematic evaluation of the scientific literature, an evaluation of the quality of the data and a critical assessment of the results. After the lectures, the participants used the time to exchange on current topics, before they left for Christmas break.
