DietBB Seminar Series: Designing smartphone apps for eating behaviour assessment and change

May 03, 2021

Smartphone apps are becoming increasingly popular to assess eating behaviour in research as well as to facilitate healthier food choices in daily life. However, despite smartphone use being widespread, nutrition apps are only used by a minority.

Laura M. König, Jun.-Prof., Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Bayreuth, talks about "Designing smartphone apps for eating behaviour assessment and change"

Abstract: Smartphone apps are becoming increasingly popular to assess eating behaviour in research as well as to facilitate healthier food choices in daily life. However, despite smartphone use being widespread, nutrition apps are only used by a minority. Moreover, in research settings, incomplete records and high dropout reduce validity of the findings. In this talk, Dr. König will present a framework of barriers to and facilitators for nutrition app use and will discuss guidelines for designing more engaging nutrition apps for research and behaviour change purposes.
