DietBB Seminar Series "Topoisomerase targeting by polyphenols: ..."

May 15, 2017

Our next DietBB Seminar Series Talk with Prof. Doris Marko, Department of Food Chemistry and Toxicology, Faculty of Chemistry, University of Vienna, Austria, take place on the 15th of May 2017.

"Topoisomerase targeting by polyphenols: the small ridge between chemoprevention and application-limiting toxicity."

Topoisomerases are crucial enzymes in the maintenance of DNA-topology and integrity. Proliferating cells and cells with high metabolic rate are known to express comparably high levels of topoisomerases, thus representing a well established target for chemotherapy. But topoisomerase-targeting is not limited to chemotherapeutics. So far, multiple polyphenols out of different structural classes have been identified to interfere with topoisomerases, with genistein, resveratrol or delphinidin as prominent representative. The lecture will provide an overview about the potency of polyphenols to target topoisomerases, the consequences for DNA integrity and highlight the question on the combinatory effects of polyphenols and chemotherapeutics.

Time and location of the seminar: April 15th 2017, 5.00-5.45 pm, Auditorium XVII, Nußallee 17, Bonn-Poppelsdorf.
