The results of the nutrition research are a firm component of the daily news diet of the mass media. How usefull is this news food, however, for the public?

The results of the nutrition research are a firm component of the daily news diet of the mass media. How usefull is this news food, however, for the public? How and above which subjects are interest for journalists? How can we better communicate the results of the research and which traps lurk in the contact with the world of the editorial staff? In his talk the editorial staff leader of the Science media Centre of Germany (SMC) explains with the help of specific examples, why real expert's assessment becomes a scarce resource in the world with a flood of information. Volker Stollorz will give an overview about the charitable SMC with its offer to support scientist and journalists, if complicate, argumentative or ambivalent science makes headlines.

Volker Stollorz is the chief editor and managing director of SMC. A passionate science journalist, he has been reporting at the sometimes difficult interface between science and society since 1991. After studying biology and philosophy at the University of Cologne and the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam, Volker was involved in the launch of three science desks first-hand (DIE ZEIT, DIE WOCHE, FASZ). He is a long-standing member of the Association of German Science Journalists, WPK, and has won multiple awards for his print, online and radio reports.
