DietBB Seminar Series: Circulating metabolites as determinants of cognitive function and dementia

Presentation, Copyright: fotolia

December 12, 2016

There is an urgency to improve our understanding of blood-based metabolic determinants of cognitive function and discover new, independent predictors of cognition and future dementia.

In addition to classical markers of vascular dysfunction and metabolic dysregulation, various circulating metabolites (e.g. lipoproteins, amino acids, fatty acids, and small molecules) have been associated with cognition and conversion from normal cognition to dementia. However, up until now findings have failed replication. This seminar will discuss novel and replicated findings in large well-characterized cohorts. Also, the role of genetic and environmental exposures is addressed and approaches to validate findings in models of the neurovascular unit.

Time and location of the seminar:

17:00-17:45 auditorium XVII, EG, Nußallee 17.
