"Nutrition goes digital โ€“ strengths and limitations!"

Abstract: There is a large offer of nutrition applications which are used for self-tracking and as instructional tools for a healthy diet. To date, there are limited criteria for evaluating nutrition apps. Furthermore, it is rather unclear, whether mobile applications are effective in weight management. The talk will provide some information about nutrition apps, which have been tested concerning dietary information. Selected studies investigating the effect of mobile applications on weight loss will be shown. Furthermore, there is a work package on nutritional communication within the nutrition cluster enable which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. In one of the projects the mobile application APPetite, which will be introduced during the talk, has been developed. More information on the project is shown on www.enable-cluster.de/appetite.
