DietBB BAEN Café „Polyphenols: Anything but secondarily?"

The group of the polyphenols shows a chemically extremely heterogeneous class of the „secondary plant materials“ which can be divided into easy phenols, flavanoids, stilbene and xanthone.

Polyphenols have been associated with healthy effects for example in preventing cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. Up to now the mechanismen therefore are widely unkown. To determine the effects of the food matrix on the bioavailability of polyphenols in blueberries is object in the competence cluster Diet Body Brain. The aim of the Bonn Agrarian and Food Network (BAEN) is the incorporation of partners who act in the area of agriculture and nutrition economy to cause in the long term the content and structural advancement of research and economy in the area of Agrarian and food in the region Bonn. State institutions, professional societies, pressure groups, research facilities and research cooperations, economic enterprises, and journalism are involved. The BAEN café is a regular conversation round with representatives from science, economy, politics, trade and banks from the area of agrarian and food. In cooperation with DietBB knowledge from the research activities of the cluster is spread within the scope of the BAEN cafés and is discussed.
