DietBB Seminar Series "Why you should do Science Slams - for students and up."

April 24, 2017

Our next DietBB Seminar Series Talk with Florian Buhr, Postdoctoral Research Associate, Centre for Misfolding Diseases, University of Cambridge, UK, take place on the 24th April 2017.

"Why you should do Science Slams - for students and up."

10 minutes, a mic, your slides, your crowd. Born in 2006, the German Science Slam scene has grown enormously. With a number of competing local and nationwide organisers, 1 -2 events are taking place every single week now - and entertaining people with interesting stories are in higher demand than ever. But what’s in it for you? Why should you spend the time and energy to overcome your stage fright and make science accessible to a wider audience? How do you start.. and is it only for students? From my experience in Science Slamming and other public engagement activities, I will try to answer these and many more questions, share stories about where public engagement got me, introduce you to some of the most interesting people I’ve met, and show you how seriously top tier universities take public engagement today and how career scientists can use it to put the fun back into funding.

Time and location of the seminar: April 24, 2017, 5.00-5.45 pm, Auditorium XVII, Nußallee 17, Bonn-Poppelsdorf.
