October 23, 2017

Prof. Dr. Ute Nöthlings, Institute of Nutritional and Food Sciences, Nutritional Epidemiology, from the University of Bonn and spokesperson of DietBB will talk about the first results in TA1 and the development of dietary assessment-instrument.

The assessment of dietary intake is crucial for nutritional epidemiological studies. The food frequency questionnaire has been the traditional instrument for capturing habitual dietary intake in large scale settings and for dietary surveys the 24-hour recall method has been the proposed method. However, a number of studies have shown the limitations in validity of these instruments. A number of recent developments make use of new technologies to assess dietary intake. These developments include web-based and smartphone-based tools to implement food frequency questionnaires, 24-hour dietary recalls or dietary records. In Thematic Area 1 of DietBB also work on such developments was conducted. The talk will present first DietBB results in conjunction with an overview of recent international research in the field.

Time and location of the seminar:
